Our festive operation
At Amazon, preparation for the festive season begins on January 1. From that moment on, our teams work hard to meet our customers' needs for the busy season ahead.
Our festive operation
This year, Amazon has created 10,000 new permanent jobs in the UK across its corporate offices, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and operations network, taking its total UK workforce to 55,000 people
We've opened a parcel receive centre and four new fulfilment centres, creating thousands of new permanent roles on teams including engineering, HR, IT, health and safety, finance, and those that pick, pack, and ship customer orders.
We've continued to invest in our transportation capabilities, creating a supply chain that is built for an environment where safety, speed, and efficiency are of the essence, and we've invested in technology to help us better predict what products our customers will want—and where and when they'll want to receive them.

To help us continue to meet customer demand and support small and medium-sized businesses selling on Amazon during the festive period, we're also hiring for more than 20,000 seasonal positions across our UK network of fulfilment centres, sortation centres, and delivery stations.
Seasonal recruits work alongside the teams who work all year round to deliver for customers, and pay starts at a minimum of £10.00 per hour, rising to £11.10 per hour in some parts of the UK. Seasonal workers play an integral role in helping us deliver an exceptional experience for customers, and many of them go on to long-term careers with Amazon in permanent roles.
We prepare year round for the festive season, and we're also excited to welcome more people to the team to help delight our customers. We especially look forward to welcoming back our seasonal workers who return year after year, as well as welcoming new faces to the team.

Paul Tate, Amazon's fulfilment centre in DarlingtonPaul Tate, 27, joined Amazon 18 months ago after losing his last job at an engine plant during the pandemic.
"I've really enjoyed it while I've been here. I've managed to progress quite quickly to become a team leader within a year of starting here. My partner also lost her job during COVID-19. So I told her what it was like here, and she applied for a job. She's also now been here just over a year, and she's progressed into a team lead role as well. My mother has started working here as well now—it's a family affair this festive season!" -
Gustano Vernier, Amazon's fulfilment centre in DartfordFormer chef and dad-of-three Gustavo Vernier, 45, joined the Amazon fulfilment centre in Dartford when it opened at the end of August 2021.
"I've only been working here for three months, and I already love it far more than any of my previous jobs. Here you feel part of a team and not just a number. Like you are part of a family. I can't wait to experience my first Christmas working at Amazon with my new colleagues. I feel proud knowing that I'll be putting smiles on customers' faces after the tough times everyone has been through recently." -
Kellie Henderson, Amazon's fulfilment centre in DarlingtonMum-of-two Kellie Henderson, 29, left the army after 11 years in the forces.
"I'm ex-military. I left the army during COVID-19, and it was quite hard to find a job. But then the opportunity came up to work here at Amazon—I really enjoy it. It's different from the military—the role I've known for most of my adult life. Coming out of the military, we do have the same principles: everyone works as a team, and it's the same banter and ethos behind everything. It's a very supportive place for families. We're about to hit 'Peak' now—the festive period at Amazon. We're getting into the swing of things."
